Catalina Island, California United States
The Avalon 50 is one of the country's most challenging and scenic 50-mile run. Taking place in the beautifully remote island of Catalina (a 1-hour ferry ride off the coast of Long Beach, California), the race is a haven for people who like running with no cars, no smog and incredible views. There are good odds you'll even see a buffalo somewhere on the course.
All proceeds from entry fees and sponsored mileage go to charity. Recipients include: Avalon Hospital, Avalon High School scholarships, Catalina Conservancy and Bill Putnam Health Care Fund.
The Avalon 50 is created and organized by Spectrum Sports, the folks behind the [OC Marathon], Redondo Beach Super Bowl 10k and the [Catalina Island Eco Marathon].
