The Eastern Illinois Foodbank (EIF) exists to alleviate hunger in eastern Illinois by providing a reliable source of food for the hungry through cooperation with a network of food pantries and agencies. EIF is the primary food source for food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, and other programs working to feed the hungry. Last year, we distributed 8.6 million of pounds of food - including 1.6 million pounds of fresh produce - across our network of more than 200 such programs. Together, we’re working to create a hunger-free eastern Illinois.
This year, we're asking our runners to RUN MILES for MEALS and help alleviate local childhood hunger. 1 in 5 children in eastern Illinois don't know where their next meal will come from. Donations raised through the Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon charity running program will be designated to our School Pantry Program. The School Pantry Program is aimed at alleviating childhood hunger through the provision of food to children and their families at school. School pantries are located on the grounds of a school, and are intended to provide a more readily accessible source of food assistance to low-income students and their families. Last fiscal year, we fed nearly 8,000 students and their families through our School Pantry Program. Join Team EIF and run Miles for Meals!
