The Strawberry Fields Triathlon is one of the more popular triathlon events in the Los Angeles area. It is also one of the only olympic/international distance triathlons in the city (along with [Breath of Life Triathlon] and the Los Angeles Triathlon). The race, which takes place in the farming town of Oxnard (approximately 60 miles north of Los Angeles) is organized by Jamie Silber, co-owner of Triathletix, one of California's premiere coaching services.

The Strawberry Fields Triathlon is a great race for both new racers looking for a longer challenge as well as experienced triathletes eager to race a fun course. The race distances are:
* SWIM: 1500 meters
* BIKE: 40 kilometers (25 miles)
* RUN: 10 kilometers (6.2 miles)

The Strawberry Fields Olympic distance race began in 2008 as an off-shoot to the popular Strawberry Fields Sprint Triathlon. In 2008, Strawberry Fields was selected by USA Triathlon as one of the Junior Elite Cup races (see Strawberry Fields Sprint Triathlon for more information).

Temperatures for the Strawberry Fields race are usually mild in the mornings though it can get hot (90s) as the day continues. Be prepared to hydrate appropriately.

course description

SWIM
distance: 1500 meters
The swim takes place in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Oxnard, California. Water temperatures are usually in the 60s. Wetsuits are allowed. Though the water is as calm as the Pacific Ocean can get, be prepared for slight rolling waves.

BIKE
distance: 25 miles
As the event name explains, the bike ride travels around the vast expanse of strawberry fields in the Oxnard area. It is a two loop ride that is relatively flat and fast. Wind can sometimes play a factor on part of the course but since it's a loop, headwinds quickly turn into the benefit of tailwinds.

RUN
distance: 6.2 miles
The run takes place primarily on the bike path that travels along the beach of Oxnard. It is an extremely flat and fast course that is primed for PR results.
