The Tahoe Winter Blue adventure race is a fun, multi-discipline event that takes place at the Northstar-at-Tahoe ski resort, just outside of Truckee, California (off the northern shore of Lake Tahoe). Teams of two search for hidden checkpoints utilizing snowshoes and/or free heel skies to make their way around the winter wonderland of Northstar's otherwise inaccessable backcountry terrain.
The course is designed to be completed between 3-5 hours, making it a good race for professional athletes and amateurs looking for a fun day in the mountains.
Tahoe Winter Blue is part of the Big Blue Adventure Series (www.bigblueadventure.com), owned and operated by Seventh Wave Productions.
This is all backcountry and resort terrain. Snowshoes and/or free heal skis are the way to go, but be prepared for anything as you could be running in your shoes and breaking trail through 3 feet of powder.
The race starts and finishes on one of the mountains at Northstar. At the starting gun, competitors race up, down, over and through the snow covered terrain. Locating Control Points using trail running shoes, snowshoes, free heal skis, etc. You can use any gear that is on the gear list. (see the official gear list for more info).
